New hardware, poor maintenance
I stayed two nights there because our tour guide said this is the only 5-star hotel in Yangshuo. The hotel is very new and close to everything. But for the 2-nights I stayed, I had to change room 3 times.
First time it was because the shower glass enclosure was leaking. After one shower, the bathroom was already flooded. It was late at night after a full day of activities, everybody, especially the kids were already very tired. We had to move to a room in a different building ourselves with nobody from the hotel to move our luggage.
We had to change room again the very next morning because the balcony sliding door couldn't be closed after we stepped out briefly. We called the maintenance guy to come fix, but he couldn't. So we moved to the 2nd time.
This time, the wall paper was dirty. It looked like somebody spilled a bottle of wire, and was covered by pink stain. Yuk!
The final room we moved into was OK, but kids found something disgusting. There was a mushroom, yes, a mushroom popping out of a gag between the wall paper edge and the base board close to the bathroom. I guess it was because of the moisture. But it looked gross!
I can't feel sorry enough for the hotel. Having such new hardware and good location, the maintenance is simply not there. Also, the concierge in the lobby must be somebody's agent. When we asked her to recommend a good local restaurant, she pointed us to a restaurant on the deserted East Street. Not only that, she said the restaurant was usually packed and needed a reservation. So she called and we were grateful. But when we walked over there in a hot and steamy summer night, the restaurant was completely empty with almost no customer! We knew immediately that the concierge was running her own agenda, and we didn't eat there.
One positive thing I do need to point out about the hotel is the Chinese restaurant (I forgot their name) inside the hotel one level below the lobby. We went there for lunch well past 1:00 PM, when nobody was eating there. We sat down, and the waiters were very friendly and patient. Their dishes were well prepared and presented, and tasty too. I was expecting to pay a little more for a restaurant in a 5-star hotel. But it turned out their price was very reasonable, if not any cheaper than those on the West Street.
I really hope that the hotel management can beef up their maintenance on the hotel facilities.
