The Garden Hotel in Datong is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in China, mainly because of the friendly and helpful staff. I got a great rate with CTrip as I wouldn''t normally stay in a 4 star hotel. The staff provided me with useful directions on how to get to the Yungang Caves on public transport- the No. 17 and the No. 3 buses which were very easy to find and no trouble at all for a total of 4 yuan return. I also went on public transport to the Hanging Monastery but lost a lot of time so I would recomment the taxi. Local buses don''t leave until the''re full.It has a great central location and is in walking distance to the Huayan ad Shanhua Monasteries.I was offered half serves at the restaurant so I could try 2 dishes. The breakfast had a fabulous array of choices. The room was comfortable with a huge bathtub. I had a great foot massage. I just loved everything about it except that my window overlooked the central atrium not outside.
